We are calling on all health practitioners to sign the No Time For Games pledge.
A delegation of doctors and medical practitioners will be delivering these pledges to leaders on all sides of politics across the federal election period, demanding they don't play games with our children's health and take serious action on climate.
Australia’s climate is warming due to the mining and burning of fossil fuels. As a result, we are experiencing more frequent and extreme weather including droughts, bushfires, heatwaves and floods.
Climate change has a direct impact on children’s physical and mental health. Climate change impacts children’s access to clean air and water, adequate food, a safe environment, control of infectious diseases, and social and economic stability.
Children have a right to grow up in a healthy environment with a stable climate. Australia’s medical community will not play games with children’s health!
We call on politicians from all sides of politics to take urgent action on climate change and pledge to support the following measures to protect our children from the impacts of dangerous climate change:
I pledge to support:
- An urgent, proactive and effective whole of government approach to climate mitigation.
- Strengthening our primary, emergency, rural and mental health services to increasingly be able to respond to children affected by climate change (e.g. during heatwaves and extreme weather events).
- Greening our health care systems, in which health professionals are well placed to be a driving force to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and waste.
- Considering divestment as an effective tool for diverting funds away from fossil fuel-related activities.
